Orange Oil — What Is It and What Are Its Benefits?

As we’re starting a series about orange fruit ( and Citrus family as a whole ) production, I thought it’s good to touch a subject that’s usually overlooked. Orange oil is an essential oil extracted from the glands inside the skin of an orange fruit. It is be extracted or steam distilled while producing orange juice as a by-product. It is used in pharmacy and food industry.
Herbal Therapy : Orange oil is useful for stimulating the circulatory system, many of the digestive system problems such as constipation, intestinal gas, stomach pains and other problems like stress, sleeplessness and vertigo.

Aromatherapy : Sweet orange oil is made 90% of limonene, and like the other citrus oils, it invigorates the body while helping the muscles relax. It is good for energising skin. It is also used to calm children and fight weariness.

Usage in Cosmetics : Skin rejuvenation, sunburns, acne, blood circulation problems in the skin are just a few of the issues orange oil is useful for treatment.

How to Use : The oil is applied in massages, in bathing water, in steam and mixed with orange peel. For extreme exhaustion and stress, orange oil can be applied directly to face with a massage. For the children a few drops of oil in the water will be enough. Because the limonene is irritant to the skin, it should be used in small amounts. Essential orange oil should be kept in dark colored bottles in cold places.
